Martin Associates Architects was founded by John Martin in 1977, shortly after gaining licensure while completing his undergraduate studies in Houston, TX. The firm gained notoriety and awards almost immediately and has completed projects in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Texas, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Louisiana. In 1989, John moved his firm and family to NW Connecticut where he has maintained a highly awarded office in Torrington ever since.

Kieran Martin grew up immersed in that architect’s household and held a keen interest in drawing, sculpture and painting from an early age. After achieving his graduate degree and license in Architecture, Kieran worked in Boston, New York City, Carmel, CA and Silicon Valley. In 2019 Kieran founded his own practice in Monterey, CA delivering residential and commercial projects throughout the central coast of California.

In 2025 Kieran moved back to the east coast to work with John, merging practices to create a Father and Son studio focused on thoughtful, human centric architecture and planning services. The success of the firm is founded on trust between the studio and clients, where the architects focus on listening and interpreting client needs first and foremost. There are no pre-conceived intentions or signature design agendas, just needs-based problem solving and appropriate design solutions.
